Waaree Energies Ltd launched its Flexible Light-Weight (FLW) solar modules today, targeting installations on curved surfaces and structures where traditional glass panels cannot be used. The Mumbai-based solar manufacturer said the new modules are 70 per cent lighter than conventional panels and measure less than 3.5 mm in thickness.
The FLW modules require only 8kg/m² roof strength and can be bonded directly to surfaces without drilling or mounting penetrations. Select models deliver up to 500W output with approximately 18 per cent module efficiency, featuring ETFE frontsheet and IP67 junction boxes.
“Cities and critical infrastructure need solar that adapts to them — not the other way around,” said Nilesh Malani, Chief Marketing Officer at Waaree Energies. The company positions the modules as solutions for metro facades, petrol pump canopies, railway infrastructure, and urban rooftops with limited load capacity.
The modules come in four variants ranging from 84W to 500W, targeting applications including street lighting, transit systems, defence installations, and building-integrated photovoltaics. Waaree claims the design reduces installation complexity and eliminates leak risks associated with roof penetrations.
Founded in 1990, Waaree operates manufacturing facilities with 16.7 GW total solar module capacity worldwide, including facilities in India and Texas. The company serves markets across India and over 25 countries with solar panels, inverters, and energy infrastructure solutions.
Shares of Waaree Energies were trading at ₹3,225 at close on the NSE today, up by ₹73.50 or 2.33 per cent.
