Europe’s cheapest city break crowned as fairytale destination | Travel News | Travel

Searching for a cheap city break for this summer? You’re in luck because the team at Post Office Travel Money have just released their ranking of this year’s cheapest destinations.

The study looks at 37 major European cities and analyses the cost of accommodation, sightseeing and food and drink to find the cheapest destinations.

This year, Vilnius, the beautiful capital city of Lithuania, regained its position at the top of the table. British tourists will find coffee for just £1.82, beer for £2.77 and art gallery entry at just £7.07.

Vilnius’ Old Town looks like it could have fallen out of the pages of a fairytale while its quirky Museum of Illusions offers fun for all the family.

But which other spots are cheap for British tourists in 2024?

Laura Plunkett, Head of Travel Money at the Post Office, said: “It’s important to remember that the cost of meals and drinks need to be added to the spending budget as city break holidays rarely include these items.

“Over the course of two or three days, these can make a big difference to holiday costs and the low prices we found for meals and drinks in Lisbon and Athens make these cities strong contenders for a bargain break.

“More generally, it’s a win/win situation for British holidaymakers this year because prices are down in many of the European cities we surveyed, thanks to the strength of sterling and some welcome falls in accommodation charges.”
